Premedication

In certain cases, it is necessary to use additional medication for comfortable treatment. In the case of fear of a child patient, but also in case of a strong gag reflex, it is possible to use the so-called Entonox.

It is a nitrous-oxide gas (laughing gas) mixed with pure oxygen. The patient breathes through a special mask and relaxes both mentally and physically for a short time. It has also been proven to suppress gagging. The advantage is easy adjustability. The patient exhales the gas from the lungs by himself within a minute and the effect wears off quickly and no further special care is required. 

For more challenging pediatric patients or longer procedures we also offer treatment with a substance called Midazolam. The medicine is dosed orally. For easier handling, we like to mix the resulting "cocktail" with sweet syrup so that nothing is recognizable in the drink. During the treatment, the patient is fully conscious, is breathing on his own and the presence of an anesthetist is not required. The advantage is that the sedation effect is stronger, lasts about an hour, and the patient does not remember anything after the procedure. This is also why it is very suitable for children who are often afraid of visiting the dentist. The subsequent regime is not particularly difficult, the patient should wait at least half an hour after the procedure in the waiting room for the effect to fully wear off..
